Infinity Capital Markets is the European business of First New York Securities LLC, one of the leading proprietary trading firms in the United States. In order to boost their working capacity, Infinity called on Frontier Technology to virtualise their infrastructure and deliver a resilient, highly-available business continuity solution.

As a highly-regarded financial services player, it is essential for the firm to have an efficient IT system. Infinity Capital Markets had a number of requirements that they wanted to address “We were basically looking for the whole package” explained Gary Brown IT Manager, at Infinity Capital Markets “We wanted to completely upgrade our IT infrastructure, but with budgets being tight it was essential that all of our projects were delivered quickly and at a cost effective price.”

Their initial priority was to switch to an automatic business continuity service to ensure their data and applications were completely safe in the event of a disaster. Additionally, the firm wanted to provide staff with a secure remote working facility to enhance business productivity. As a rapidly growing firm, underpinning all of their requirements was the need to upgrade their existing infrastructure to reflect their increasing business demands.

“We have only had the solution for a few weeks, yet we are already seeing the cost savings” Gary Brown, IT Manager, Infinity Capital Markets

Frontier Technology’s consultants initially conducted a thorough needs analysis, considering Infinity Capital Market’s current and future business plans and the technology they already had. They then designed a disaster recovery solution using VMWare virtualisation and Double-Take Software. This combined technology ensures that in the event of a disaster, Infinity Capital Market’s essential business information is backed up and can be instantly recovered. Additionally, it provides a highly available system for the firm’s key business applications. Frontier then went on to design and implement a SAN solution and virtualisation platform, the specialised design provided a cost-effective way to deploy new business applications. It also allowed the firm to consolidate its existing physical servers, reducing their on-going IT running cost, helping them to stay green.

Infinity Capital Markets is currently in their testing stage but can already see the benefits of the new infrastructure. Gary Brown remarked “We are very pleased with Frontier Technology’s solutions and are already seeing the effects with all of our servers moving from physical to virtual. We did not envisage that this would happen so quickly and easily. We have definitely been provided with a cost-effective and innovative solution”
